Yeast Infections

Body

I have spent the past 5 years taking antibiotics for Lyme/Babesia. My LLMD has always stressed the need for a low sugar, yeast free diet, and has routinely had me on Nystatin and sometimes Diflucan to keep the yeast at bay.Now on this forum, I hardly see  the Yeast threat mentioned at all. Not only that, the use of glucose for the Secondary Porphyria is recommended !! So I wonder.......do people find that on the lower dose protocols for CPn that yeast is just not a big deal at all ?

Hello Annelet..... the blunt answer to your question is "no, we don't"... If you read the recommended supplements it lists yeast and fungal recommendations; if you do a search here  on the site for previous conversations and discussion you will find quite a bit.   It's not something to take lightly. And it is mentioned in the handbook info. Some have no issues and then there are many of us for which it is a constant battle; and, I personally believe there are many who have yeast issues but don't attribute their symptoms to it.I have a personal concern regarding taking Nystatin and Diflucan while taking ABX..... I read it can morph the Candida into resistance..... anyone else have input on that?    The times I have taken Diflucan I stopped the ABX for the duration.   But, again, I guess this all depends on each individual's immune system, etc.

I just take probiotics daily. I should probably limit my sugar intake further, but I've had no yeast problems while on the protocol.

I took acidophilus as a probiotic, two hours apart from any antibiotic and I have never had a yeast problem................Sarah A Journey through Light and Shadow

Well that has been my general impression.... that as long as you are aware of the yeast issue, and take "sensible" precautions, that it is not such a HUGE deal.....as the  'anti-long-term-abx' people would have you believe.

I use VSL#3 and Theralac as my probiotics of choice. They seem to keep the yeast under control along with Nystatin and Candex. I have also changed my diet to                       T

Yeast was a problem for me on abx. It was a mostly low level infection but would flare if I ate sugars. I kept to a good diet with no refined sugar and more protein than the high carb diet that many follow here. Olive leaf extract helped.I went off abx January 17th this year after treating Cpn for 5 years. I took Candex (stuff really works!) twice a day for a few weeks and that cleared it out of my intestines. I currently take Lauricidin and A-Bart (an herbal preparation that has garlic in it) for Bartonella. Haven't had any yeast problems so far.My naturopath is very knowledgeable about treating yeast. I owe a lot to her wisdom.Raven

Annelet, I think it depends on the person.I recently have discovered that I have a yeast problem.  I only figured this out after a five weeks of six Nystatin tablets per day and feeding the yeast with lots of glucose, thinking it would help my energy levels.  At my last appointment, the doc suggested that I stop the Nystatin for a week because my brain fogginess and energy levels were making me borderline non-functioning.  After a week off of Nystatin I felt the best I had in years.  (I have been on the CAP for six months.)  So I started back on two tablets of Nystatin per day and within a day or two my symptoms came back.  I stopped the Nystatin again and when I felt better (about three days later) I started back on one tablet every other day with dinner.  I take cholestyramine every night before bed.  I am five days into the new reduced dosage of Nystatin and I am feeling pretty good.  I plan to stay at this level for a week or so and then try one tablet every day for a while.I do not use glucose anymore unless I have done something strenous and then I will take about 12-18 grams.  For instance, ten days ago I worked in the yard for twenty minutes and afterwards my hands were so shaky that I needed two hands to hold a glass to drink.  I took glucose then to prevent post-exertion malaise, along with some creatine and chlorella, and I bounced back quite well the next day.  Eight months ago I would have been in bed the next day. I don't think the antibiotics caused my yeast issue.  I think I had it pre-CAP.  But, so far, it has been the toughest part of my treatment.  I know I have experience genuine porphyria (complete with brown urine) but the yeast die-off from Nystatin feels very similar in terms of feeling like a zombie.

Started CAP for Cpn on 11/14/10 - Per my doctor, paused Abx 5/18/13 - NAC, B-complex, Vit D3 (50,000/week), Niacin (100 mg/BID). Started Buhner protocal (2nd edition) on 8/30/16. Currently using a blend of Buhner's Cpn and Mycoplasma protocols

Some of the "yeast" problems can also be viruses, not yeast, as Dr. Stratton pointed. They wake up, when our immune system is occupied by cleaning the garbage after pulses. I discovered some of the vaginal itching was probably papillomavirus, not candida.
