Who the heck is Pandora?

look inside the box and see what's in there .........

All sorts of pills in different shapes and sizes, and BRANDS.  So here's the question - Does anyone detect differences between one or the other?  Does it matter where we buy them? Is NAC the same regardless of where it's bought?

I've said this before, but not in this context (ignore this part if you're tired of reading our vitamin C story).  Kim has been taking a Vitamin C supplement made by USANA for a couple years now and we noticed when she stopped taking it that her walking got greatly impaired.  It took about 4 days to really notice it, and it took me a few more to pinpoint that it must have been the Proflavinol supplement.  No other Vitamin C supplement has this effect for Kim.  So in our case we definitely notice an impact for this vitamin within this brand.

But what about other brands?  We buy a lot of stuff at the Vitamin Shoppe.  We used to buy stuff at GNC.  But does it all really matter?  Who else has a particular supplement that they have noticed something like this about?  Ken

Hi Ken, I do think brands matter. They certainly do effect me in certain ways, too. I know Vitamin Shoppe is big here in the DC area, but after reading this I feel I've been very wise in avoiding their store brand:  lead

Okay - I'll open the lid - this is a subject I know pretty well as my family is in this business for 20 years.

Not all vitamins are equal.

In general you want to look for vitamins that are considered pharmaceutical grade.  These are companies/vitamins that are made consistently, in very hygenic circumstances that comply with pharmaceutical mfg. standards, ingredients and sources for ingredients are standardized, amount of vitamins as advertized will be exacting, delivery system will be reliable, claims of no sugar, no soy, no xyz will be reliable.

Members of my family have been to many of the manufacturing facilities of these companies and they are impressive and similar to those of a pharmaceutical company.

Some of the vitamin brands considered pharmaceutical grade while not comprehensive will be:

Solgar, Allergy Research, Twinlabs, Bluebonnet, NOW, Enzymatic Therapies, Douglas, etc...

Some of these brands actually have done small clinical trials of some of their products.

Daisy on her own CAP 11/2012.

Good to know, thanks Daisy.

I knew there was a difference from brand to brand in quality.  I mostly take NOW & my C is from Twinlabs.

I have been meaning to mention this on other threads & the fog had me forgetting.  Take as many of the supplements as you can in capsule or gel cap containers.  Capsules may just end up as potty pellets as they don't break down as quickly.

I must admit I pay attention to the brands that my doctor uses. One of the brands is Source Naturals. I am very impressed by their products. They have more of the supplements we take in tablet rather than gelatin cap form. Another one he told me about is Metagenics. I use their Magnesium Gylcinate. It is easier on the digestive system than other magnesium supplements. I don't use any of the ones that Trader Joe's sells. I think there are better brands out there. Just my 2¢!!
