When to start Doxycycline?

I started taking 600mg of NACi about 10 days ago. I got the NAC flu-chest felt tight, sinus stuff, sore throat, etc...I took a 2 day break and the symptoms eased up then reduced the NAC to 300mg and still got the nac flu. After another 2 day break I took 2 days of 300mg NAC. Today I feel awful. I can't tell if I need a root canal or whether my sinuses are really inflammed. I've had a bad headache with light sensitvity (always just on one side of my head), extreme fatigue, and last night had drenching night sweats causing me to get up 3 times to change pj's.

I'm trying to figure out if I need to wait to start doxycycline (since I'm having a strong reaction to NAC or if I should just start it now. I can't afford to feel much worse right now.

My IgGi titers were 1:1024.

Thanks!

My own tendency is to jump in feet first and do whatever I have to do to get from here to there.  It has been a long road, but "there" is somewhere in view.  From my experience, there is no way but to feel pretty awful at least part of the time.   Can you get some good books and read and sleep when it is really bed?

The first abxi I took was Rifampin, followed a week later by Doxyi.  I have never looked back.  From the first day that I added NACi, I took 2400 mg.  I was just learning what feeling horrible felt like.  Eventually it will get better.  Take your pills, take out the trash, and eat well.  You can do what you need to do.

3/9 Symptoms returning. Began 5 abxi protocol 5/9 Rifampin 600, Amox 1000, Doxyi 200, MWF Azith 250, flagyli 1000 daily. Began Sept 04 PPMSi EDSSi 6.7 Now good days EDSS 1 Mind, like parachute, work only when open. Charlie Chan  In for the duration.

Thanks Rica. I'm normally the type to jump in with both feet too. That's gutsy that you started with Rifampin. I was on that to treat Bartonella about 2 months ago. It hit me so hard I couldn't tolerate it especially after adding in Septra. Now I'm wondering if it's because the Rifampin also hit cpni.

What sort of symptoms did you experience when you started antibioticsi? I'm trying to figure out how to differentiate my regular ME/CFSi and POTS symptoms vs herx vs secondary poryphoria. I've been doing a lot of reading on this site but can't remember what I've read-lol. I'm going to have to print out the handbook as being on the computer is difficult right now.

I've been on some pretty difficult treatments these past 4 years but this take the cake.

Thanks for your input-it's helpful to hear from someone who has gone down this path.

I started NACi a couple of weeks before adding in doxyi/azith, but I didn't have the huge reaction to NAC that you're having. Though, I, too, am inclined to dive into the deep end right away, I think you can afford to hold off until your response to NAC is under control. A couple more weeks won't make much difference in the long run.

Thanks MacKintosh. I'm thinking along the same lines as you. It's hard to be patient and I want to jump in but the reaction I'm having is just intense. I had 'walking pneumonia' (before it was called cpni or mycoplasma) in 6th grade that went untreated for awhile. Then a lung infection in 2005 that I never recovered from. I'm think my cpn load must be pretty high.

I'm not taking NACi every day right now. More like 2 days on then 2 days off. It hits me hard the second dose.

I read somewhere that NAC could move mercury around? Not sure if that's a myth/rumor or not.

Yes, I read something here about it being used in chelation, but don't recall the specifics. Maybe someone will come along to help...

Not sure if you were joking about a root canel or not.  Hidden dental infectionsi can cause many health issues and lots of qualified people think root canels always get infected.  I would get a holistic dentist to check it out and pull it if infected.  Just my opinion

anndrew1. I don't think I need a root canal. My teeth/tooth was painful this morning but my sinuses also feel inflammed since NACi and I have post nasal drip so I'm thinking that may be the culprit. A friend who also has severe ME/CFSi had a root canal that went bad and has had osteomylitis as a result. I agree about getting a tooth pulled if infected.

It's hard to sort all this stuff out. I would call my doctor but I have to pay out of pocket and can't afford a call this month.
