Matrix Metalloproteinases (MMPs) have a variety of destructive effects and have been found to be upregulated during Chlamydia pneumoniae infection. Vitamin D3, importantly has been shown to play an important role in regulating MMP production.The following studies show some of the effects that Vitamin D has been found to have over MMP production:
