Trouble ahead w/abx conflict

Houston, there's a problem.  I am on David Wheldoni's protocol, almost to the letter, and it's been going just ducky.  Something happened two days ago and I may have a problem ahead.  I woke to find four little 'pimples' behind and below my right ear.  They itched.  I figured heat rash or chafing from a high parka collar.  I happened to run into a friend who's a nurse and she said 'that looks like spider bites'.  They were swelling a bit and starting to itch and hurt.  Another friend said it looked like an allergic reaction to something (but there is NO other outbreak anywhere but this one spot).  The little spots now look like angry mosquito bites and there is swelling below this 'bitten' area, extending downward, which I think might be a gland (?).  It seems to me I should not be reacting like this as I am ON abxi.  What if I need a different abxi to treat whatever this swelling is?  Do I hiatus from the protocol (NOT something I want to do, by any means)?   Could another antibiotic be safely added to the current cocktail?  And it HURTS, like the occasional throbbing/stabbing pain at the beginning of an earache, though it's not in the ear, but below it.  Can I take aspirin?  Yes, yes, I know; I'll see a real doctor if it doesn't begin to subside tomorrow.  I was allergy tested before starting abx and I doubt it's that, but this is scary.  Does spider venom do this?  So many questions!

Oh my Macintosh, I'm sorry to hear of this develpoment. I'm not a doctor and I don't play one on TV, but here's an excerpt from the Dr. Sears site (Pediatrician) about spider bites.

Spider bites – these are the largest type of bite, often creating a large, raised, circular area with a visible pinpoint bite mark in the middle. They can grow in size and redness for several days, and tend to be quite painful. They can number from just one to 5 or 10, often in a straight line or confined to one body area. Spiders often travel across a body part at night, snacking along the way. The initial bite is often painful, but not always.

Maybe a bit of Benadryl would help!

Patricia, I think it is not an allergic reaction. People like us have nasty reactions to any insect bite. Try to apply cold (not ice)packs, take some ibuprofen and see what will happen. Barbara

Cured of multiple sclerosisi, stopped the Wheldon's protocol in Nov,2008. Use only LDNi.

Down the rabbit hole, Alice (or MacKintosh, as the case may be)...     Life is so bizarre now, I am actually more worried about interripting or interfering with the abxi protocol than I am about the pain and swelling I am experiencing from the (cross your fingers... ) bites . and  tender, swollen gland.  I'm going to push a lot of vitamin C and water.  Ibuprofen.  HAve to check the medicine cabinet.  Never use the stuff, so I don't know if I've accumulated it in my many forays to the pharmacy since diagnosis.

Hi Mack,

Do you take Amoxicillini in your combination, i have found that Amoxicillin is the only abxi helping my rash behind my leg to get under control.I would recommend you to try Amoxicillin for your rashs.

Take care,

Guner

started abxi on 06-06-2004

On CAPi's protocol for Cpni in PPMSi since June 2004 - Currently: Doxyi 100mgx2/day - Roxyi 150mgx2/day - Flagyli 500mgx3/day (Continuous protocol since sept.2006)
Mac, if your rash turns out to be due to an infection and you are prescribed other antibiotics, there should be no need to stop what you are taking already.  David sometimes prescribes a veritable cornucopia of abxi for various hospital patients.  I should try things like ibuprofen, antihistamine cream or calamine lotion first, though.  Witch-hazel ointment as well can work wonders.  Of course, it might well be just part of the cure, like the red blotches I had round my ankles for a while, or the sometimes incredibly irritating itch around my fingers, which In haven't had for a while now..........Sarah
Completed Stratton/Wheldon regime for aggressive secondary progressive MSi in June 2007, after four years, three of which intermittent.   Still improving bit by bit and no relapses since finishing treatment.

MORE abxi is okay?  Sarah, thank you for the reassurance.  I had it looked at today and was assured they're spider bites and that my lymph gland is so swollen because it's doing its job properly.  Good to know I can add abxi if necessary, without conflict.  That's a huge relief.   Ice, I went out and bought ibuprofen just for this special occasion.  It definitely helps. I am so reluctant to take anything on top of the abx, but this was worth it.  Thanks to everyone; I'm toughing it out.  Kind of feels like someone hit me with a hammer just below the ear, but 'this, too, shall pass'.  Guner, no, I'm saving amoxi for later on!

Wierd about the spider bites, Mac.I think it was a spider bite that gave my Chlamydia "farm"  a big boost to spread in the body. It gives mention of this in the '99 Vanderbilt article that Ron posted. I was all over the Net looking for some conection between the bite and all the wierd symptoms I was having. I found this article about 2 years ago but it took this long to make the connection to Cpni.I actually caught the little beastie biting me and squashed it. The next day, all my bizarre neurological symptoms came on as well as a sweaty fever.Good thing you are on the treatment. Hope you feel better soon. Try some Epson salt compresses with hot water on thebite. Or do a soak with 3lbs of it in the tub. Draws out toxins. And the magnesium will relax you and help you sleep.Raven

Feeling 98% well-going for 100. Very low test for Cpni. CAPi since 8-05 for Cpn/Mycoplasma P.,Lyme, Bartonella, Mold exposure,NACi,BHRT, MethyB12 FIRi Sauna. 1-18-11 begin new treatment plan with naturopath

Spider bites, Raven, on top of everything else you've been through?  My sympathies, because this is just miserable.  And some of my symptoms DID flare, like you experienced, though not massively, the day after the bites.  Then again, maybe it's a rash like Sarah experienced and the toxin 'flare' was what was actually happening and the 'bites; are just the point at which the toxins pushed out.  Who knows?  As long as I'm getting better, I'm happy, but the swollen lymph gland and the fat neck are really beginning to grate on my well-being.  I snapped at two subordinates at work today and had to apologize right away for being so touchy.  (Luckily, one chalked it off to the bites, since no one knows about the cpni/MS and it has to stay that way.)  At least I'm sleeping now, knowing if another abxi is needed to combat this, it need not interfere with the protocol.

Spider bite support group, I thought I should report it's getting better (finally)!  Thanks to everyone who reassured me, from being able to take pain meds to knowing I could add more antibioticsi to the protocol without doing myself in... you helped my state of mind more than you could know.  The swelling has gone down, the gland is like a soft little marble, rather than an angry golf ball and the pain is minimal, so I've discontinued the ibuprofen.  Back to worrying about MSi.  Thanks again.

So glad to hear your bite is better, MacKintosh! This is one of the things I hate about MSi--no matter what is wrong we always suspect it has something to do with this disease. MS forces us to live in a constant state of uncertainty.
