Tinidazole caused bruising?
Hi, I'm wondering if anyone following the Wheldon protocol could help me with their experiences.
First of all, has anyone using tinidazole found that it has caused unexplained bruising? I recently took it for the first time and had bruises appear all down both legs, as soon as I stopped taking it the bruises started to disappear.
I would also be interested in hearing from anyone who has tried taking nitroimidazole and found that it works as well as tini or metroi.
thanks

Elinor, I used to take metronidazole but swapped to tinidazole because I found it much gentler and easier to take. I have never experienced any unexplained bruising, in fact I now bruise a lot less than before I started the treatment. Both tinidazole and metronidazole are nitroimidazoles, in the way that both doxycycline and minocycline are both tetracyclines, but of a later and better generation........Sarah
An Itinerary in Light and Shadow Berger.Started the Wheldon regime in August 2003, due to very aggressive SPMSi. Moved to intermittent therapy after one year. In 2006 still take this, two weeks every two months. EDSSi was about 7, now less than 2You are the first person to report this that I know of on this site, but "unusual bruising and bleeding" is listed on the medication insert for tinii under "Side effects, incidence unknown." Your question may bring more reports out of the woodwork, so to speak.
We have no way of knowing if it is an actual drug side effect, or simply a result of apoptosisi of vascular Cpni infection in the leg, but I would check with your doctor before taking it again. I checked on whether this is in the flagyli drug insert, and it is also listed there. I too will be interested in what others have to say here.

Sarah, sorry I meant to say Nitrofurantoin not nitroimidazole, I was prescribed Nitrofurantoin for a UTIi and read on here that Dr Stratton had evaluated it as an alternative to metroi. I've taken it twice for UTIs and had a good response both times so wondered if anyone else had a similar experience.
Jim, thanks for the advice, I was hoping it might be something others have found resolves in time with tinii as I know my doctor will want me to stop if I tell him (not to mention that I've just bought a big box of the stuff from an internet pharmacy..... drat!)
If Nitrofurantoin does the same in terms of Cpni killing maybe it will turn out to be a better choice for me.
best wishes elinor
yes, I got two small bruises on my forearm while taking metronidazole. I rarely get bruises, and there was no memorable impact to the area, so this was significant to me.
It happened so recently, that I haven't even had time to research anything about the cause, so "Thanks, Jim!" for posting it as a potential side-effect from the nitroimidazoles.

I was running low iron a few months ago so wrote this off but when these bruises appeared I was ok per MD, already pulled iron up so I will see if they come back next pulse flagyli and let you know.
