I've put off starting flagyl for ALMOST 3 YEARS for various reasons. The last was because the doc wanted me to take Arimedex and didn't want confusion of side effects. I eventually elected not to take Arimedex, however, and just now got the guts to start flagyl. After 3 years, this is a BIG jump for me, so I'll probably be here looking for support if I find myself vomiting in the toilet...or...if nothing happens. I don't know which would be worse. I'm going to start slowly and hope for something in between. I'm taking one pill as soon as I stop typing.
I've done quite well on only doxy and Biaxin for almost 3 years, but imagine it is not a cure to only take 2 antibiotics...may not even be smart. And I'm not suggesting anyone else wait that long to start flagyl, but I do want to say that even with only the two, I HAVE had slow steady improvement. I do NOT fool myself to think the CPn is gone, but whatever the two abx do to control it, it has been reasonably effective.
I am still very thankful for my doctor and this web site. Unfortunately, I have been very negligent in getting on this site regularly, as I feel I should, to continue to learn. Once I got the general gist of things, I seemed to have difficulty finding the motivation to search out more of the details as others of you have done. Perhaps I'm just not much of a detail person. I often wonder if I may have an ADD personality of sorts as sometimes it seems hard for me to focus on any one thing too long. Anyway, if there has been a radical change to the treatment, I'm not in the know now, so I will begin reading again to catch myself up.
Here goes. I may have to switch to (forgot the name of the substitute for flagyl) if the flagyl does a number on me. I'm already susceptible to depression. And doxy and Biaxin gave me some real punch when I took them in terms of physical symptoms, so I am a little concerned what the flagyl will do regarding physical reactions. But I'm moving forward like a soldier on a mission.
Thank you all for your support,
