Roxithromycin anyone?
Hi, any roxithromycin users out there? Help!!! ........I recently started taking Rulid instead of the generic version I'd been taking for about three months and I feel awful.......more pain, worse nausea and sooooo miserable!
Does anyone think that Rulid really is more effective than the generics, both in terms of immediate response and also in long term results, or is it just co-incidence and I'm going through (yet another) bad patch?
I am taking it along with doxyi as part of the Wheldon protocol so I'm also taking the supplementsi to help with die-off etc. Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Elinor, I am on the generic roxithromycin since the beginning of February. I am the lucky one, I haven't registered any side effects from the therapy, except for the upset stomach. If I don't eat enough before taking Doxyi/Roxi combination I throw up one hour later. I also hate the taste in my mouth when I am on Flagyli.
It is always better to take the original medication when in doubt. What people usually notice are worse side effects with generic meds.
You have started with the generic and then switched. My suggestion is to eat and drink more before swallowing the pills. Avoid dairy and anti-acids 2 hours before and after. I doubt it will help with the pains, but the nausea and upset stomach should be much better.

Cured of multiple sclerosisi, stopped the Wheldon's protocol in Nov,2008. Use only LDNi.
Thanks Sarah, it's reassuring to hear from other users and don't worry, I have no intention of going back to the generic, I just wondered if anyone else had noticed that Rulid may be more effective.
If the reason for feeling worse is that it is working better then I will probably just back off a little and lower the dose slightly until the worst passes, coming from the lyme camp I'm familiar with the 'it'll get worse before it gets better' sentiment, but I don't want to be overwhelmed by toxins if there is to be much more die-off than there has been so far.

Thanks Barbara, your comments have made me think about how I take the pills, I've been taking roxi before meals as it's better absorbed like that but I will try taking it after, at the same time as the doxyi to see if that helps.
Nausea has been a long time symptom for me but I never actually throw up so I tend to think that this is not a side effect of the drug, just a worsening in response to die-off, but it's such a horrible symptom that it's worth trying anything to minimise it.
I haven't started the flagyli yet, it doesn't sound like fun!

As with so many of us, I have had to learn the hard way to listen for the rumble! The nausea can certainly be a problem. I had to throw up once before I really believed it could happen. I still take them on an empty stomach but drink lots of water and sometimes must hurriedly eat something 40 +/- minutes after. I take Flagyli with AM supplementsi, lunch, and evening supplementsi. I know that is ok because I can feel it kick in about 45 min later with waves of giddiness. Many days I take an extra acidophilus at noon.

I hope you get this.
My abxi is: Rifampin, Doxyi, Azithromycin, and pulsed Flagyli. I also take Avonex about every 9 or 10 days. Yes, my dr. wants my LFT just about every month . I take ALL on their prescribed schedule. This means Rif 2xD, Doxy 2xD, Azith 3x week, Flagyl 5 D every 3 weeks (this time I started 1 week early- working really well). This week I will be taking all of them when I get LFT. I have done this before and shown all only slightly elevated. They are most elevated after Avonex- big spike. More and more I maintain I would give up Avonex before abxi at this point.

I flick between rulide and generic depending on what the pharmasist gives me. I never noticed a difference. However, I think i do get "nausea and sooooo miserable" while on flagyli.
As for when I take it, the chemist and my dr have been pretty clear that the roxi should be taken on an empty stomach, and the doxyi with food. I havnt suffered in anyway because of this. I normally take the roxi first thing when i wake up and dont eat for an hour or more (another 150 after work).
I have suffered when I take the NACi without enough liquid to wash it down. If it opens up before it gets in my stomach WHOA it hurts.
