Rifampin

It seems that not many folk  have added Rifampin into their treatment programme,

but I'll ask the question anyway........

It seems that Rifampin is a good killer of CPn by being bacteriocidal, but why is it

necessary to take Rifampin plus TWO other antibiotics? Why not Rifampin pus Azithromycin?

I have to admit, this is a loaded question..... I am hoping that when I am on Rifampin

I could drop the Doxy and be able to go outside in my garden and be in the sunshine!

Wear a long-sleeved shirt to your garden.  Rifampin is an undertaking and a responsibility.  I have done it twice a day, along with four other abx much of the time.  You MUST cover all three life forms of this devious bug or you will simply breed a better bug.  I think we all will agree that if it gets much smarter, we may well lose.  If your Vit D level is up, the sunshine will be nice, but you can get along without it while you are on Doxy, which is a critical addition now.  If I am wrong, someone more knowledgeable will be along to set me right.

Annelet, you can take only rifampicin and azithromycin, along with pulses of flagyl: that will take care of cpn in all its phases and is what I did for six months, before starting intermittent when I had to go back to doxycycline and roxithromycin.  This was all prescribed by my husband, who doesn’t like people taking more antibiotics than is needed.....................Sarah

A Journey through Light and Shadow

Completed Stratton/Wheldon regime for aggressive secondary progressive MS in June 2007, after four years, three of which intermittent.   Still improving bit by bit and no relapses since finishing treatment.

Thank you.....I basically want to stick to the rules, but I burn even through cotton.

I have taken Rifampin before and tolerate it well.

Sarah....I am assuming you took NAC too?
