New Folks: help us out please?

New folks here to Cpnhelp, we need your help.

This site is full of wonderful, generous folks, who are sick too, who spend a lot of time seeing to questions and making sure people get the help they need. We will do our best to help you through the confusion. I've seen few community websites like it.

But for some miraculous reason we have had a huge influx of new people lately, and we are getting swamped, especially with having to answer the same questions over and over again with each new person posting. We are glad you've found us. We are a bit overwhelmed with the bounty.

I'm a bit worried that the stalwart old-timers here are going to burn out trying to keep up with responding to new folks. They are very dedicated and conscientious, and tend to want to be thorough in each response. That's why it's such a helpful culture here, because of the old-timers who take so much care to guide folks through the fog.

We know you are sick and not at your best, and desperate for help on arriving here.

We know that there is a ton of information to absorb, kind of sprawling all over the site, and made more difficult by one being ill and brain-fogged.

We know you want to know what to do RIGHT NOW, to get rid of this illness as fast as you can.

We are working, all volunteer work here, to put together an overview and FAQ of the CAPi [1] for a one-stop information shopping experience. Soon we hope.

But we need you to do some things in the mean time.

I've never, ever wanted to suggest that people "don't post" here. We don't want to put up any barriers to getting help up, but...

  • Please don't post questions if you haven't read these at least a couple of times:
  • http://www.cpnhelp.org/handbookintro [2]
  • http://www.cpnhelp.org/http%3A//www.cpnhelp.org/%3Fq%3Dsimple [3]
  • http://www.cpnhelp.org/the_basics_page [4]
  • Read David Wheldoni [5]'s site even if you don't have MSi [6]. His presentation is clear and cogent and will help you understand the treatment approach: http://www.davidwheldon.co.uk/ms-treatment.html [7]
  • Even if you are brain-fogged, please try to read the whole Handbook at least couple of times before you ask "What should I do?" type questions. One time just to be totally overwhelmed. A second time to begin to get the picture. If you got it in you, a third time would be great and some glimmers of light will begin to show through the fog.
  • Try the Search box. It's not the best search engine, I know, but it may come up with some answers to questions that already are on the site.
  • Please post a question in a forum or blog first rather than PM folks privately for advice. It's not really appropriate for individuals to be put in a position to guide anyones treatment and, besides, your question might help someone else.
  • Introduce yourself in a blog and make sure to list what you are taking, if anything, and what you are being treated for. The signature is a good thing to fill out, but it won't appear on your blog post, so you need to add it intentionally or post a comment after so it will appear.

I hope this won't discourage anyone here, and if you can't do the above, by all means post what you need to. We are glad you've found us and hope this will be an answer for you. We would rather be a bit stressed in the short term and make sure you get some responses. But if you can take a little time to explore and digest it will make a big difference.

Please let me know how this editorial hits you. If it is frightening you off or if I'm speaking for others inaccurately, I'd rather pull it. So let me know.

Well put Jim, What happens

Submitted by Michele on Thu, 2008-04-24 01:11.

Well put Jim, What happens when we are overwhelmed is that we skim through things and may miss something important. Another aspect that has put extra pressure on is having to deal with things other than Cpni [8] and its treatment. For most of us these other topics are unfamiliar territory and it means doing more research before answering, so if we are working hard to get people the answers they need regarding Cpn, I for one will ignore the other discussions. Its a matter of rationing my time here...

Jim, Sarah, Daisy, Michele, Mac. I just would like to emphasize my appreciation for the help that you and everyone provide through this site: it helps a lot and I have been/will be searching before I ask questions. :)) I don’t understand always everything, but I do understand much more by time. Hopefully one day some of us can be as useful as you guys to other new comers. Until then I try to do my best to find answers on my own and not only to get answers but more importantly to understand it…Thanks a lot again for the good job. This site has been truly a blessing for me…

Jim, Thank you; well put.

Jim, Thank you; well put. Veressv, thank you, also. We've already gone into a second generation - maybe a third - of newbies who have become educated enough and have a year or more on abxi [14], who can now help others. And they do, regularly! Jim, Sarah, Marie and Rica got me through the first steps and held my hand when I had the same questions all of you have.

Jim, You are so right on [15]

Submitted by Reenie on Thu, 2008-04-24 11:46.

Jim,

You are so right on reading all of those links.  I read them several times over and I still have had to ask questions.  I can't imagine what more I would need to know if I hadn't read all of those other links and David Wheldoni [5]'s site too.

Although I'm new here, I've found I can help answer some of he questions now that I've learned how to link.  IMOi [16], it helps ALOT when answering someone's question in a post to link, link, link, to a previous post or place to find the info.

This way eventually, someone new reading someone's posts and questions will be linked to the original place or site with the info!   Smile

 Thank you Jim and everyone

Thank you Jim and everyone here helping me. (one of the newbies)

I totally understand what you are saying. I don't want to add to your burden and will study harder independently. I appreciate you listing the links for us to study so very much. That will help keep me focused.

I want to say that everyone here has been so very nice to me and it has meant a lot to make me comfortable here. Jim, I was telling Reenie before that I love your spirit & humor. It goes a long way in keeping the peace. You are a true diplomat.

I crave a peaceful existence and will do all I can to keep it too. I never want to make anyone here feel bad ... you all have enough pressure in your situations. It is a good reminder that everyone in here is very sick. We need to take care of each other and not be too demanding. I will gladly be more responsible for learning on my own. It is the best way when I can.

Thank you Jim for sharing all this today. May your load lift & you find peace.

thanks JimK for posting

Submitted by ruthless1 on Thu, 2008-04-24 12:54.

thanks JimK for posting this.

I have been mentored by you- JimK, MacK, Michelle, Cyprianne, Katman & others, & I know I probably asked repetitively answered questions.  I thank you for perservering.

I have noticed that, at times, the newbies come in waves.  This creates a flurry of activity & then it quiets for a bit & so on.  I have really noticed many of the newbies reaching out & helping each other even though their journey, thus far, has been a short one.  They even advise others what You & others have said in other posts.

Time flies when you are treating on this protocol.  The urgency of wanting to just feel better yesterday, comes & goes...but mostly patience has become a virtue; even to those of us who were not.  I have been on the site for a year now & looking back, I can't believe how much pea soup my brain was in compared to today!  Not completely out of the woods yet, but improvement is a good thing.

Welcome newbies, keep us posted as to your progress!
