Problems taking doxy/mino
But basically, got CPn, Lyme, mold exposure, and Im struggling to take doxy/mino. See blog for more info.
My liver was tested before any Abx, and enzymes were fine. I started on doxy, was feeling ok, but a few weeks in, after adding the roxy, I had liver enzymes slightly elevated on a test. I knew I had to add tinidizaole later, so my CPn doc thought I should switch to mino. I tested the roxy +mino combo on a test, and the liver enzymes were fine, back to normal range.
But... within the first a day, I developed terrible gut issues. Swallowing food, it felt like it scraped down my esophagus with no lubrication. I had panging abdominal pains, radiating to the back. I thought maybe these would be transitory, but after four weeks they were still there. Also, i felt more dizzy and wobbly on it, and had a strange mental state, though that could be herxes or other things.
Right now, im just on roxy, and have done two days of tinidazole. My CPn Dr said just being on roxy for a while + tini would be ok. I also need to do some more mould treatment / toxin binding before I amp up my CPn / Lyme killing (see blog).
However... after the roxy + tinidazole pulse... I got a strep throat infection! And hence needed to take penicillin for ten days on empty stomach away from food, along with keeping on taking the roxy. So had to stop on taking the binders, temporarily, since they'd absorb the penicillin. I tested my liver enzymes after tinidazole + roxy and they were elevated, this time even more than before. The Dr thought it could be just the strep throat infection, but I suspect the tini pulse contributed.
Anyway, Im back on roxy + just restarted the binders. It seems to me that if I am going to do the full CAP, then its going to be a choice of mino, which makes me feel bad and gives terrible gut symptoms, and doxy, which seems to be hard on my liver, so... really don't think I can be on it long term.
Ive got a whole bunch of liver tests requests from my GP, so im going to test again. If its all normal, i MAY try add in doxy or Mino... but am afraid of getting bad side effects again and having to stop. And I know stopping + starting isn't good - I think that may have contributed to me getting strep throat! However I really did try to persevere with the mino, but the sides were terrible
