No More NAC reaction?
Hey All,
I am hoping this will post. I am confused. I have been taking 1200mg NACi daily for the last month or so, dropping down to 600mg when I've been unwell. I take the NAC before bed - 1200mg at once, so I only feel unwell during sleep time and well at work - I work in diagnostic imaging, so I cant afford to be NAC affected at work.
However, I took 1200mg a few nights ago and felt as though I had chronic acid reflux. My oesophagus was "burning" closer to my stomach and my stomach was flipping inside out for about 2 hours. Since then, absolutely no reaction to NAC! Nothing at all. I can take it during the day, and I have no symptoms.
Does this indicate that the dose should be increased? Or should I remain as I am?

How nice! Maybe this is your first celebration day.
If it were my deciaion, I would increase NACi to the suggested dose of 2400mg per day. I don't remember if you are on any abxi yet, but, if not, it is certainly time to start.

3/9 Symptoms returning. Began 5 abxi protocol 5/9 Rifampin 600, Amox 1000, Doxyi 200, MWF Azith 250, flagyli 1000 daily. Began Sept 04 PPMSi EDSSi 6.7 Now good days EDSS 1 Mind, like parachute, work only when open. Charlie Chan In for the duration.
While I'd celebrate 'no reaction' to NACi, I also wouldn't take my meds immediately before sleeping, unless you use two pillows (or sleep upright, in a chair). Reflux is one of the results, as you've found. You can damage your esophagus doing this.

Thanks for your replies katman and MacKintosh.
I commence ABxi in November (7th to be exact) - I cant wait ! I actually feel really good on NACi at the moment. I have abundant energy.
Now that I have no reaction , I will take NAC in the evenings, hours before bed. I still don't want to risk taking it during the day as I don't think I want to compromise my work.
Another question, do you take ALL the supplementsi listed in the handbook? I take milk thistle for my liver, however will take all the recommended supps upon starting ABxi.
