MRI coming

Submitted by katman on Fri, 2006-01-13 10:18

There will be a new kid on the block soon.  I asked my usual question- "Do you have any friends, relatives, or enemies with MS"?  The answer was affirmative.  He should be here shortly under the  name "Skymaster" or "Skyman".  As soon as he posts with the "submit" button we can communicate with him!

On to the serious matters.  My B-12 was actually high at my visit to my PCP Wed.   He suggested cutting my dosage down from the 10000 mcg. to 5000  I had increased it recently and it must have worked really well.  Dr. Stratton said in my semi-annual email that I seem to have the cpn under control and "in the near future" could stop Rifampin.   I  never thought I would hear such a thing.  Problem was, how was I to know when the near future arrived?  "When I no longer have reaction to the drugs."  Well, I certainly have LESS than I used to so I'm partway there.  He suggested 1 to 3 years more on a regimen to be certain.

For Marie, who wants to know about  concrete results, I must make a list:  more feeling on my right rib cage returning- +- 30% after being almost totally nunb for 10 years,   increase on ellip. by 30% in the last 10 days or so without realizing it,  and most amazing of all-  I CAN RUN IN PLACE!    At first, two weeks ago, it was 6 steps with each foot now up to 30 and could have been longer but I have other things to do.

Also for Marie, who just did her 1st Flagyl.  I have been watching much more closely my body's recovery from my recent 17th pulse.   Last Sat am was my last (15th) dose of 375mg.  and I am on Fri. am still clearing mentally and physically from it.   During Flagy l had a very bad limp that is finally almost back to my recent norm of a slight but definite limp except in the first few hours of the morning when I am at my best.  So, yes, it takes many days to recover from this assault, not the 4 or 5 I blithly gave it.

My PCP said you have to have an MRI!  (Thanks, Barbara)    Sat., Jan. 21, 8 am is the day.  I will pick up my films at my neuros office on Wed. before.

Never untill the last few years have I had trouble sleeping.  I keep hearing melatonin and plan on buying some today.

Cheers, all!

WHAT!!!!! you RAN IN PLACE!!!!!!!! Oh, Rica. Remember when we were posting on thisisms about a run on the beach and you were going to run the stopwatch? Remember? Yesterday I thought well, if there's a run on the beach I'll have to run the flag. OK. So if YOU get to run then I do too. Wow. Just wow. And no kidding you need an MRI! Boy, I will be waiting for that one for certain. Just a thought a I've had many in different towns because we moved: if it's a different machine particularly if it's a open vs a closed, or if the images are flair or not, the radiologist will make some cavet about how different machines show different things and how only same images same machine are really tell tale. It may not matter to you as perhaps it is all going to be the same, but you might want to ask the imaging people ahead of time to pull the old images and see how it was ordered so you can make sure you are getting the same set of films. It'd be crummy after all that to have the new films be "no FLAIR images" if the first set was that type. thank you for making a list of newer findings in terms of how you are now. These things are important for all of us. Just the other day a new person came on and said "is anyone getting any better?" That was how I felt when I got to this information too. It's hard to tell people are doing better based on posts. Rica, I am so proud of you. ANd so thankful for your warm mentorship to everyone else also. God bless you richly Marie

On CAP since Sept '05 for MS, RA, Asthma, sciatica. EDSS at start 5.5.(early cane) Now 6 (cane full time) Originally on: Doxy 200, Azith 3x week, Tini cont. over summer '07, Revamp of protocol in Summer '08 by Stratton due to functional loss; clarithro

Thanks Marie, as always you are thinking logically ahead.  My MRI will be on the same (closed) machine as ALL of  the previous , and I know at least one  was taken twice-  one with and one without "enhancement".  I believe that is the injection iv.   I spoke with them yesterday and they have at least 2 and the  other is at my neurologists office .  I have already told them I will pick it up on Wed.

Yes, I run in place most days just to see if I can,  not for exercise.  It will please you to know that while on Flagyl I did not most days just cause I was not up to par (understatement) but did a few times.  It was not easy and I was "heavier"  but my appointment was 4 days after my last dose.  I did it for him and he was laughing he was so delighted.  He told me I look better than for 10 years.  He thinks our tests are hilarious- stork, shin, Frankenstance, etc.  He said he had not heard of some of those.

Hello, Rica. I am so glad you are improving. I am waiting for your MRI, too. It is not incredible news about your running in place. Soon you will be running around chasing these goats of yours. You will be next, Marie! I had read your post about the jump over that grassy median at your work place and I thought "Marie pulled my legs again". Wishing both of you the best Barbara

Thanks Barbara

Forgot to add that my liver functions were ALL in the normal range and I had made certain I was taking all 4 abx.  It has now been  about 5 weeks since I stopped Avonex.  The only blip on my screen was a wave of happiness that I no longer had to endure nights of chills.  I'm thrilled that you have the worst behind you.

Rica, I have another question. What is Dr.S. planning for you when he stops the antibiotics in 3 months?

Barbara, I have never seen Dr. S., only asked by email.  His answer to "When does the near future arrive?"  was "when you no longer have reaction to the drugs".  I am definitely not there yet.  When I am to the point, which did arrive for Sarah, that I can go on maintenance, I will come here and ask you and David and Sarah, who has earned credit by doing! for a protocol. This, for me at least, is new- protocol by committee- but where in this whole world are we going to find more knowledgeable advice?

My mistake, Rica. I did not read carefully your post and asumed you were talking about months, not years. Shame on me.

That's ok- we can all dream.  We would not be on this site if we had not.  He said I shoud think about 1 to 3 years after that (stopping Rifampin).   Rica
