Minocin?

Submitted by lovin herbs on Fri, 2008-10-31 13:51

I'm new and am having trouble navigating.  I've been wanting to ask this question for weeks...thinking I'd figure out the "right" way.  Decided I'd just ask here.  I'm sure it's answered somewhere, but fatigue is suggesting I take an easier softer way.

I can't tolerate doxycycline so my doctor has me on Minocycline.  Do I take this in the same dosage as the doxy?  Will it work as well?  I'm taking 100mg daily right now.

Thanks ahead of time to anyone who may see this and can help!

Hi lovin herbs,

I switched from Doxy to Minocyclin, first it felt like a pepp pill, but it was a great combination with Tini, I wasn`t  tired . I`m not sure to stay with it alone, I`m "high", but the next pulse will be Tini/Mino.

'Bump' pushes your post up higher on the list. So, while I couldn't answer your question, I tried to help by bringing it to the forefront, so others would see it and respond.

Here is a list of antibiotics that can ben used for the treatment of Cpn.   You will see that minocycline is the prefered ab although much more expensive than doxy.   If you are not paying for the drug then I should go with it, although you might well have some reaction to it in the same way as doxy.   We have found through experience that what we thought were allergies to drugs and other substances ofter were the result of Cpn die off (Although we were unaware at the time that we were infected with Cpn)

Yes the dosage is the same.

Minocycline is generally better tolerated than doxycycline although as pointed out - it is more expensive.  It is also active against many of the bad bugs folks have here including CPN.

A common dosing equivalent would be

Doxycycline 100mg AM and 100mg PM

Minocycline 100mg AM and 100mg PM
