Is NAC essential?
I'm having problems with NACi, it is making me really sick in the stomach. How important is it? I have stopped taking it and am feeling way better, it seems to cause nausea and stomach cramps for me. I'm still taking 200mg minocycline and 300mg roxithromycin. Plus various supplementsi including a liver detox containing milk thistle, globe artichoke and green tea; Vitaminsi B6, B12, C, probiotics, Curcumin (Tumeric) and Coenzyme Q10.

NACi can and will always do that to me - unless I drink at least seven or eight ounces of water with it. It is an important weapon in our arsenal, in that it protects our liver AND actually kills one of the life forms of cpni. There is nothing else that I know of that does double duty like that.

Thanks Lala, I think you're right about the cpni stomach infection. I am having lots of abdominal pains. The brand of NACi I have is Cape Fear Naturals. It is the 3rd brand I have used. NAC doesn't seem to be that readily available in Australia so I ordered it online from the US. The first brand I used before abxi and I had no problem with it but I can't remember what brand it was! The 2nd was NOW brand and it made me really sick, it had added selenium and something called molybdemun? I stopped using it. This 3rd brand (Cape Fear Naturals) is the one I ordered from the US and I've got 10 bottles of 60 tabs! I'd better get used to it... lol.
I think I'll ease off on it for a little while, until things settle down, and then start it up again.
I am having so many reactions to just the antibiotics, I am astonished by it!
Thank you so much for your support on here. I am feeling very alone and a little scared by all this.

I had such a strong and tangible reaction to NACi, I feel I’m its number one fan. As Rica mentions, it has a double role in the way it helps us in our fight. I’m glad I started the NAC first – it took me about a month to tolerate it, gradually increasing the dose over the time, before I was able to start the antibiotics. I’m sure that has helped me. I don’t think I would have been able to introduce the NAC at the same time as introducing the antibiotics, because it would all have been too much to cope with. I’d definitely recommend to anyone starting out that they try to get all the supplementsi and the NAC established first if they can.
The NAC caused me lots of tummy problems too – but I assume that was its effect on bacteria there. Swansons works fine for me – I started with Solgar and that did nothing at all, so there definitely seems to be a difference between brands.
DW does say on his website that if it produces unpleasant reactions, NAC can be delayed until abxi are well tolerated. The ‘recommended supplements’ section of ‘Getting Started’ says that NAC is the most important supplement in CAPi though – so, as with all things on this protocol, I think we just have to try to do the best we can manage, and the best our bodies will let us do at any given time.
