Title

sarcopenia and digital mucoid cyst

Body

I had for some years a couple of digital mucoid cyst: they are not a problem but I wonder whether they are related to Cpn.
The same question for sarcopenia (muscle loss especially in legs). I changed now my diet reducing carbohydrates (which I had kept high to avoid porphyria) and increasing proteins and exercise and I had some improvement. All comments will be appreciated. Thanks.

I have been for about 2 years on antibiotics but recently on Cap.

Nino I've never had the cysts but I have definitely had muscle loss over the last few years, though it hasn't been diagnosed as sarcopenia.  Before I became ill my muscles were well defined and very strong from years of sporting activity and the difference now is very noticable.  From the description here

it seems that there  are many factors involved but if it's sarcopenia in my case then inactivity would be the main cause  though no great leap of imagination is needed to connect the condition with long term infections.

It's great to hear that you are starting to improve and that you think  the protein and exercise are helping, what type of exercise are you doing and what kind of improvements are you seeing?

Since I cut starchy carbs and increased protein I've had so much more energy and have been able to start exercising,   strength builders like yoga and  tai chi   (no aerobics, skiing or badminton yet but thats the goal)  and the muscles are starting to rebuild, slowly at the moment but the strength is coming back and the shape is improving.  Incidentally I have also had far fewer symptoms of porphyria but don't know whether this is as a result of the change in diet or a general reduction of porphyrin release as the treatment progresses.   There is also much less muscle and bone pain when I've pushed things a bit, except after a tough pulse, and my balance is better too.

Keep up the good work!!!

I have a small cyst on my thumb, my mother has them, some quite large ones on her index fingers and thumbs. Only time will tell whether the CAP will make mine go away.
