Title

Glycosuria (Sugar in Urine)

Body

For the past year or so, the toilet I use most often grows mold in the bowl very quickly.  Without thinking too much about it, I figured it was probably due to the long-term antibiotice.  But as I thought about it more, that didn't make sense to me.I was researching and found that mold in the toilet bowl is often a sign of diabetes because the sugar in the urine gives the mold something to feed on.In looking over my metabolic blood tests of the last few years, my glucose levels have all be normal, with the exception of one that was slightly elevated.

Comments

The reason they do blood sugar tests when fasting is that when you're not fasting your blood sugar can go higher than normal.  So if even your non-fasting tests were in the normal range, you have nothing to worry about. To me, mold in the toilet is the indication that it's time to clean it again.

Thank you, Norman.  That insight on the blood tests is reassurning. We know this treatment is hard on our kidneys.  If anyone has some insights or thoughts as to whether that would affect sugar levels in the urine, I would be interested in hearing them.  We clean the toilet but the mold comes back immediately.  Using a small bleach tablet in the tank prevents it.

Started CAP for Cpn on 11/14/10 - Per my doctor, paused Abx 5/18/13 - NAC, B-complex, Vit D3 (50,000/week), Niacin (100 mg/BID). Started Buhner protocal (2nd edition) on 8/30/16. Currently using a blend of Buhner's Cpn and Mycoplasma protocols

Within a few days.I asked Dr. P's PA at my last appointment and he said he had not heard anyone else mention mold in the toilet.I asked my internist and she said it could be a number of things.  She did some blood work for diabetes but she doubted that was the problem.  She theorized that the abx could be killing bacteria in the toilet that would have otherwise kept the yeast and mold in check.  She said I might just have naturally higher urine sugar levels.
