Which leads to...the number of possible connections in the human brain exceeding the number of known elementary particles (including atoms and what atoms are made of - electrons, neutrons, protons, and then what those are made of - quarks of various flavors) - in the entire known universe. The basic calculation is something like 86,000,000,000 raised to the 10,000th power - e.g. multiplying 86 billion times itself 10,000 times!  Someone who knows math might suggest is 10,000 raised to the 86 billionth power - but I don't think so.  Either way - the number is astronomical - and only some kind of an estimate. Interestingly - that number supports the theory that consciousness is an emergent property of a sufficiently complex system.  E.g. it starts when the brain reaches a certain level of complexity, and ends when that complex support structure disintegrates or "dies."  I prefer to believe that our consciousness floats on the eternal quantum foam that makes up our universe...Best & Highest Regards,Tom C
