Citing evidence that flouroquinolone drugs may lead to tendon ruptures, Tuesday, the FDA ordered makers to add a 'black box' warning and develop explanatory literature for patients emphasizing the risks. The two leading drugs covered by the warning are Cipro by Bayer and Levaquin, by Ortho-McNeil. They (the FDA) concede they do not know the reason these antibiotics cause such ruptures. I took Levaquin years ago. I've often wondered if it didn't contribute to my tendonitis in some way.

My understanding is that it's more likely to cause a tendon rupture or damage when you use these meds along with steroids. I remember reading that on some literature about fluoroquinolones.
NAC 2.4g, Zith 250mg/MWF, mino 200mg, Tini 5day/1g/5 pulses, ValcyteSupplements, CFIDS/FMS, Hashimoto's, Psoriasis, PA, IBS, Sec Addisons Don't believe everything you think!
Reenie, you don't have to take fluoroquinolones with steriods for them to have adverse effects. If you research it on the Net there are many negative reports/stories from reliable sources. It has helped many people, but for others it has been devastating.

I've taken Levaquin so many times that it doesn't work for me anymore. I haven't had any trouble with it thankfully. The doc put me on cipro now but I'm going to ask him to change it to arithromycin.

A strong, prolonged course of Cipro is what "activated" my EBV/CPN three years ago - there is clinical evidence that it can induce the reactivation of pathogens https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/16456326/

Fluoroquinolones .... it's
Fluoroquinolones .... it's about time the FDA did this.... Finally something to support my rant as to why they are dangerous (and it's not due to only tendon ruptures). Scarey part is...... how many doctors will be aware of this?
