Cheap Vitamin D Testing

Just came across this:

You fill in a brief online questionnaire (less than 5 mins) and you get the chance to do a vitamin D test for only $30 (roughly £20). The full "trial" lasts 5 years (one test every 6 months), but you have the option of just signing up for one test with no obligation to continue (you'll get a reminder email in 6 months).

The test they use is the ZRT pin-prick test (the one Red recently took). It is normally $65 - $75.

The cheapest UK test is The Doctors Laboratory who do it for £40, admittedly it is a Diasorin test which is the best but this ZRT test which according to the Mercola site has been calibrated against the Diasorin test.

Hope this helps someone out there!

Garcia, are you considering this trial.   It would be a great way to keep your level at the upper level of desired range by testing regularly.   Louise

Louise I've already signed up. Its too good a deal not to IMHO. Even if I don't end up testing regularly, $30 for a vit D test is a steal. And like you say its probably a good idea to test regularly anyway (just from a preventative health point of view, doubly so if chronically ill).

But there is no obligation to do any more than one test.

Garcia, I missed this at first.   Sorry!    Excellent find.    I'll add it to the Importance of Vitamin D In Short thread.    Thanks!

I will definitely join up for my next test...

Excellent graph!  It really highlights the fact that the current recommended daily allowance of Vit D (400 iu I believe) is basically just keeping us from getting Rickets and not much else..

Thanks guys. Sorry I didn't find it earlier for you Red! (though I only searched for it because of your test anyway).

It only took a week for the test kit to arrive from the US to the UK. Looks really easy to use. Hopefully I'll send mine off on Monday. Can't wait for the results. I've been on 9,400 IU for about 5 weeks now.

Onwards and upwards!

Good luck with the test results, Garcia!    The ZRT test was actually very easy to use.

BTW too, it took only about 2 weeks for the results to show up for me from ZRT labs here in the US (from when I mailed it back to them), and the results were also very easy to read...

Let us know what your results are if you don't mind.   We should start a thread on members 25(OH)D levels in the Vit D forum...

I don't understand the "Xs" on the graph, combined with the lighter color, usually with higher percentages. Can someone please explain this? Rica

Just a guess - possibly they don't feel they have a large enough sample in those boxes/categories - to consider it hard evidence at this point?
