candidaSubmitted by Lynnp on Wed, 2008-07-16 22:50. I've been on antibioticsi full time since 1990 so have struggled with yeast all these years. I am on a strict diet for it. I take a lot of Diflucan. What have you found that works the best? I've tried Candex before (not lately), I take probiotics, etc. I have an appointment with my doc Friday to see if he'll put me on the protocol but I have such bad yeast problems. He told me the yeast wasn't the problem, it was a symptom of other problems. I looked at the list on this website for all the anti-candida supplementsi but just wanted to get info on what works the best from all on this site. Is flagyli for yeast? Isn't it different than Diflucan? Maybe I should switch to Sporanox? Thanks much!

I've placed an order for both, along with a brand from my MDs dispensary.

I'm new at using a website so I don't know if I can use names of doctors or companies?
One product I have heard of is Oregano oil.
Maybe you could look it up on internet or ask a reputable vitamin supplement company wether it would be suitable for you?
I had years of antibioticsi and saw a brilliant doctor about 15 years ago who treated me with antifungals and diet. I saw him again last year for sinus headaches and bowel problems, he treated me with antifungals and diet and although CAPi treatment involves antibiotics he suggested I look into it for M.S which I've had for 25 years.

Lynnp I have just posted a new comment but I don't know what to do to personally send it to you? It's under the heading Recent comments 'I'm new at using website.. I am using this website everyday and hoping to master new skills....
I know what you're going
On CAPi I've had no problems. I take Turmeric capsules, Probiotics and Chlorella on a daily basis.

Hi Lynn, I agree with your
Hi Lynn,
I agree with your Dr. The yeast is most likely not the problem but a symptom of other problems.
When I first got sick with CFIDSi and too ill to work, I had one yeast infection after the next, something that I never had experienced. I had prob had one or two before that time, ever, in my life, but as I became ill with a weakened and damaged immunei system, I got one after the other, over a 4 month period. It was awful.
Treating the yeast at that point didn't help. The problem persisted. But, in time, as I became more stable with bedrest and supplementsi mainly, the yeast problem resolved. I do try to eat plain yogurt and take probiotics but I'm really bad about doing so on a consistent basis.
I was concerned when going on antibiotics in 2004 (MP) that the yeast would return but it never has, nor have I had any problems on CAPi with yeast. I'm not sure if this will change with pulses though because up to this point, these antibiotics are bateriostatic, (aiding the immune system to kill off bacteria) not bactricidal (directly killing off bacteria) but pulsing kills off everything so that could change and cause an imbalance in gut flora allowing yeast to overgrow.
I do however experience a skin issue which I believe is fungal which could be related to the antibiotics but it's hard to say. When I experience an increase in sxs from the abxi, sometimes the psoriatic skin lesions appear to have a fungal component to them and I get nail involvement as well. It gets painful but it resolves mainly on its own as I forge ahead.
After reading on many sites about yeast issues and being part of communities of folks on antibiotic protocolsi, it seems that the imbalance of intestinal flora is more of an immune system issue than something you can treat specifically for. I'm sorry I don't have any good answer for you as I know this can be a very nagging symptom but I wonder if you would do better not to treat the yeast specifically and only try to use CAP. Maybe the yeast would balance out in time?
I think it might be worth a shot if treating the yeast specifically isn't working for you.

Don't believe everything you think!Hi Lynn, I've had Candida
Hi Lynn,
I've had Candida problems for about 7 years now along with CFSi. I am now on the yeast free diet that I'm assuming you are following? I've heard that too much Diflucan use is not a good idea. What I do for mine besides the diet is using coconut oil and grapefruit seed extract. Both have strong anti-fungal properties. Also coconut oil has a wonderful side effect of weight loss and speeding up your metabolism.
Check out http://www.coconutdiet.com/candida.htm
Also Lactinex might be great for you. It really helps me. It is an over the counter very potent Acidophilis. I find it better than the ones on the self. It needs to be refrigerated and has to be purchased from the pharmacy.
Hope this helps!!

I was going to mention
I was going to mention Grapefruit seed extract, I think it definetly kept the candida problem 'contained'. I totally agree with Jim that different strains of yeast respond differently. When I was prescribed Amphotericin, sporanox and Nystatin over 10yrs ago, it worked but now like cpni infection the yeast infection has 'developed' and is not so easily sorted.
I don't think Amphotericin exists any more. Recently I was prescribed Nystatin along with Itraconazole which is apparently just another name for Sporanox. You can buy Canesten over the counter as a pessary and a cream or get it on prescription.
Even though your dr. claims yeast is not the main problem but is a symptom of other problems it doesn't mean that the yeast problem shouldn't be treated. Obviously I agree that if we were fit and healthy we wouldn't have yeast problems. As much as I struggle with this site, everyday I learn so much stuff I didn't know. Thanks!! I will be checking out Kolorex, Lactinex, Chlorella, coconut oil and turmeric.
I was cautious about taking Grapefruit seed extract with all the abxi and supplementsi I thought it might 'clash' or something, so it's ok then Jim?
Take Care, Good luck, keep us updated.
Hi Lynn,I seemed to be
Hi Lynn,
I seemed to be having many problems with fungi/yeasts until I ramped up my Vit D3 levels, and my problems were not just problems with internal yeasts/fungi, but also with external, skin related, yeasts and fungi - i.e. tinea infectionsi, seb derm, etc.
Many of my problems seemed to subside a bit with @ 4000IU of Vit D3, and even more subsided with each additional 2000IU I added on (I now take 10,000IU) . Vit D3 ramps up the production of our bodies' own cathelicidins (LL-37) and LL-37 has been shown to kill Candida Albicans. See the Vit D3 page in the link below for more on this. Click on the links for C. Albicans for more info on how LL-37 attacks Candida:
http://www.cpnhelp.org/importance_of_vitamin_d_p
Vit D3 does seem to have some effect against Cpn and really does seem to ramp up secondary porphyriai, so if you do decide to up your dose of Vit D3, do it very slowly and be VERY careful to make sure you are taking all anti-porphyria measures possible.
Hope this might help you. It really worked like a charm for me...

Treatment for Rosaceai
Hi Red, You know, I think
Hi Red,
You know, I think keeping D up may be why I have less problem with candida than some others and why I may have gotten candida and yeast issues at times when I was sick and indoors alot.
Since I live in AZ and get lots of D from the sun naturally especially in the summertime, this might be what's helping me to keep candida and yeast problems at bay mostly. I'll be sure to adjust D3 doses in the wintertime to compensate for this.
I've also used Citricidal (grapefruit seed extract) which helps and have eaten coconut oil in my diet now for awhile but not much lately.
BTW, for me, symptoms which mimic IBSi return at times from the abxi and are resolved with porphyrin diet and remedies.
