I am still faithfully doing the Buhner Protocol, taking the herbs he recommends 6x per day. I also started the protocol for Lyme and the co-infections. After starting the co-infection herbs, I had some really rough days. They were as bad as I ever was on flagyl. I almost cut back but instead I upped cat's claw and started ibuprofen (both for their effect on inflammation) and upped my chlorella intake. Whether the herx passed or those three things helped, or a combination, I'm not 100% sure but I did start feeling better soon thereafter.
I started Chinese cat's claw (uncaria rhynchophylla or gou-teng) a few days after the other co-infection herbs because I had to get it from a different supplier. Buhner recommends that for Lyme that is affecting the brain. Given that my brain function has not been 100% for a while - above and beyond brain fog - I thought I would give that a try. It caused another round of herxing but not as bad as before.
The good news is I am having some stretches of a few hours when I really feel pretty good. Some days I have more physical energy and some day I have more mental energy. On good days, I have more of both, but again, only for a few hours.
I haven't noticed a huge improvement in brain function yet but I suspect that will be a lagging indicator of true progress.
