Bleeding and itching
I didn't want to hi-jack the "Azithromycin, itching and skin rash" thread with this so I decided to post a new topic.
First, that thread talks about itching due to azithromycin. Well, I've had very bad itching for years off and on, long before I began the azi. It's been a symptom of mine for years.
After reading about porphyriai, it turns out that itching is one of the symptoms of porphyria. I strongly suspect that's what was going on in my case and want to suggest that might be what's going on with some of the people posting to the other thread.
Next, I have been having blood in my nostrils. It's weird, doesn't happen all the time, just every so often. I don't know if it's bleeding right at the opening of my nostrils, on the inside, or whether it is coming up in the fluid from lower down my nasal system, possibly my sinuses, when I blow my nose.
From time to time, I do pluck my nose with tweezers to groom myself. The bleeding seems to happen a day or so after I do that. And, this morning for example, it doesn't seem to correspond with how much grooming I've done as my last time doing that was very light.
Anyhow, just something I'm a little curious about. I'm not alarmed per se, but also not ignorant enough to just ignore it. I hope someone here can shed some light on what might be going on? My take on it is that doxyi and or azi are making my epidurmis so malleable and tender that it's just occasionally happening. I have had a substantial change in my skin tone and texture.

Hi John. I am also glad to have figured out the itching thing. My secondary porphyriai symptoms seem to have attenuated and I'm only a little itchy lately from the heat and sweat (which feels so normal!). As for the nasal bleeding, the first 5 months of CAPi treatment I had this. Dr. P attributes it to allergic fungal sinusitis. It helps to lavage the sinus cavities with a mild saline wash. Breathe Ease is great to use---doesn't sting and feels great. Also very economical as a small package lasts a long time.

I use the one with the small plastic spray bottle. It's easy to mix up anywhere with some bottled water. Don't use tap water. Or use boiled filtered water. Do it two or three times a day.
My problem cleared up the longer I was on the treatment. I'm still using Breathe Ease but I don't have anywhere near the congestion I had earlier in the treatment. So I think your problems will clear up as you progress through time. Antibioticsi can make us more sensitive to fungal allergies. (Also, check your environment for any possible mold sources---bathrooms, kitchen. If you do yard work, wear a filter mask) Molds are everywhere and it's hard to escape them but there are things you can do to minimize exposure.

Hang in there. You will improve. It's not easy but you can do it. Patience is the key. The itching will also go away in time.

John,
If I were you I would also stop the tweezing..This can set you up for infection especially folliculitis at the tweezing zone. I am a male and I use the nose and ear trimmer cheap from target works great and cleans you up real nice..tickles a little though..also read my post on sinus infection/inflammationi..

Ravens suggestions are also excellent..\
How much blood are we talkin about?
Thanks for the suggestion, I do use an ear and nose trimmer but it doesn't have the finesse of control I need to get the job done, hence the tweezers. However, I will try to do as you suggest and will be looking into Raven's suggestion as well.
As for the amount of blood, it is very minor. It's not enough to run out of my nose and just comes out when I blow or wipe my nose, and not consistently, just on certain mornings. It doesn't happen in the afternoon or evening. As a kid, I've had MUCH worse nose bleeds as the result of being punched in the nose. Unless someone is punching me in the nose while I sleep, I haven't yet figured out what the common factor is that dictates whether or not I'll have some blood on any given day, so I can't explain it.

Thank you for that information. I have never looking into that possibility and will be looking into the products you've suggested. They aren't expensive and are easily obtained. It's definitely worth trying out. Many thanks!
